Iran Even as violence rages in Iraq, the Bush Administration may be preparing another unnecessary and costly war, this time with Iran. Press reports say our government has made extensive and detailed preparations for military strikes. The reason cited publicly is Iran's nuclear program, but our own intelligence estimates say Iran is ten years away from even the capability to build a nuclear weapon. Ethiopia The lack of democracy in Ethiopia became clear in the wake of the 2005 elections, as the ruling coalition (EPRDF), led by Prime Minister Meles Zenawi, instituted a violent crackdown when peaceful demonstrations began in protest of alleged electoral fraud. Gross abuses of civil and human rights ensued and continue to this day. Our tax dollars to Ethiopia fund regional destabilization, widespread human rights abuses, and mass atrocities committed by the Ethiopian government in the Ogaden that are leading to a humanitarian crisis. Iraq The presence of U.S. troops in Iraq is the primary cause of violence, terrorism, and the increasing slide towards civil war. The most extreme groups who have bombed civilians and pushed toward civil war gain legitimacy from their opposition to the presence of U.S. troops. Recent polls have shown that the vast majority of Iraqis want U.S. troops out. We need to pressure our government to withdraw this year. Learn More»
Iraq Oil Law As the debate in Washington shifts from should the U.S. end its invasion of Iraq to how and when, it is imperative that we not lose site of the details of withdrawal.
